DISEASES

Powdery Mildew
Powdery mildew is a common fungal disease that appears as white, powdery spots on leaves and stems. It typically affects the lower leaves first but can spread to any above-ground part of the plant, sometimes causing leaf distortion.
This disease often develops during periods of warm days and cool nights.
Treatment:
-
Apply Triforine or Mancozeb Plus.
-
Alternatively, mix:
-
3 level teaspoons of bicarbonate soda
-
1 litre of water
-
A few drops of fish emulsion
-
Spray the mixture thoroughly on affected plants.

Black Spot
Black spot is a fungal disease that appears as black blotches on leaf surfaces. For infection to occur, leaves must remain wet for at least 7 hours, making watering practices crucial in prevention.
To reduce the risk, water in the morning so leaves can dry throughout the day.
Treatment:
-
Remove and dispose of affected leaves.
-
Apply a suitable fungicide such as:
-
Rose Shield
-
Triforine
-
Mancozeb Plus
-
Regular monitoring and proper watering can help keep your plants healthy and free from black spot.

Rust
Rust is a fungal disease that appears as rust-colored pustules or powder on the underside of leaves. As the infection progresses, these spots may spread to the upper leaf surface. If left untreated, the leaves will weaken, wilt, and eventually fall off.

Treatment:
-
Remove and dispose of infected leaves.
-
Apply a suitable fungicide such as:
-
Rose Shield
-
Triforine
-
Mancozeb Plus
-
Prevention Tip: Maintain good air circulation around plants and avoid prolonged leaf wetness to reduce the risk of rust.

Mosaic Virus
Mosaic Virus is a viral disease that causes yellow mottling or mosaic-like patterns on rose leaves. Infected plants may show distorted growth, reduced vigor, and poor flowering. Unfortunately, there is no chemical cure for this virus.
Treatment:
-
Remove and destroy infected plants to prevent the virus from spreading.
-
Always use virus-free stock when planting new roses.
-
Disinfect pruning tools regularly to avoid contamination.
Prevention Tip: Purchase roses from reputable suppliers and maintain good garden hygiene to reduce the risk of infection.
